Lecture Recitals and Master Classes

Paul Roberts’ master classes and public lectures immerse the listeners in a magical world of images and ideas . . .  His communicative abilities, whether as performer, writer or teacher, are without equal.

Paul Roberts is an enthralling lecturer and teacher renowned for his ability to communicate to a wide range of listeners. His master classes become a collaborative presentation not only on questions of pianism but on the nature of interpretation and the meaning of music.

In July 2021 he was invited to give a week of master classes at the International Piano Foundation Theo and Petra Lieven,  in Vienna.

Among the many subjects he covers are Beethoven Sonatas (Opus 53 ‘Waldstein’, Opus 109 and Opus 111), Spanish Piano Music (Falla, Albeniz, and the Spanish works of Ravel and Debussy), and Ravel's Miroirs . His current lecture-recitals on Liszt coincide with his work on his forthcoming book Reading Franz Liszt: Revealing the Poetry Behind the Music

  • Liszt the First Celebrity
  • Liszt and Goethe: the B minor Sonata
  • The Allure of Italy: Liszt and Petrarch
  • Années de pèlerinage: A travel diary in music
His beautiful and fluent use of language to describe music is at the level of the highest poetry and his sheer virtuoso piano playing and rich knowledge of music and teaching experience put together make him a distinguished existence in the world of classical music.

Witnessing his enthusiasm and love of teaching both the professional musician as well as the amateur was one of the most meaningful experiences I have ever had in music.
