PIANO WEEKENDS AT LANGHAM HOUSE
Challenging but supportive, Paul Roberts’ courses are a lifeline to amateur pianists.
Classical Music Magazine
Roberts is an inspirational teacher, who brings his musicological learning to bear with brilliantly illuminating effect. I came away from this course with a rich haul of insights.

Music at Langham House, in the village of Robertsbridge, East Sussex, promises a highly enjoyable and stimulating weekend of music-making in a beautiful setting. The weekends are open to amateur pianists at all levels of proficiency and include a mixture of group teaching (four classes over two days) and individual lessons. Up to six participants can be accommodated either at Langham House or in comfortable accommodation close by.
Participants can bring whatever repertoire they wish, though it is recommended that one piece should be of sufficient standard to play through to the group. There is ample opportunity for practising. On Saturday evening there is a recital and Sunday afternoon a participants' concert.
The food is delicious.
About Langham House
Langham House is a Regency house with a varied history: it has been a small hotel of dubious respectability, and flourishing ‘rooms’ with tea-gardens attached. It fell into sad decline over the past 50 years until its recent restoration as a family home.
Robertsbridge is a remarkably preserved medieval village in East Sussex, not far from the site of the Battle of Hastings, set in the midst of the High Weald, a designated area of outstanding natural beauty. Robertsbridge Abbey (alas not at all preserved) is of the greatest significance to European music: here keyboard music was written down for the first time.
How to get to Robertsbridge
Robertsbridge Station is within five minutes’ walk, with a direct line from London Bridge, Waterloo East and Charing Cross. Participants from outside the UK are advised to travel via London. From Gatwick Airport there is a fast train to London Bridge and from there an easy connection to Robertsbridge.
